BT - Case Studies

British Telecom are one of the largest companies in the UK and are world renowned as a leader in telecommunications, but even a company as large as this needs outside help in certain areas of business. It was for this reason that they required 1st Containers expertise in the field of shipping containers. With BT sites across the whole of the UK, and storage being an issue at many of these sites, they needed a company that could meet all of their expectations and requirements.

BT is a brand and they could not have visible on site containers up and down the country painted in any colour. Although BT required containers for general storage of equipment, their requirements were still quite specific. All details were passed to our in-house technicians and engineers across the 1st containers various sites of the UK. This was a national operation as BT needed containers on sites from Cornwall to Aberdeen, but with 1st Containers having depots around the UK, the supply was made quickly and efficiently. Our engineers got to work straight away with the main job being to colour each and every container required to the BT blue. 1st Containers supplied 50 storage containers to BT, which all needed re-colouring. This was one of the reasons that BT chose 1st Containers over other container suppliers. With 1st Containers the client will always get a first rate service due to the fact that we have all of our own staff to do conversions and any other technical requirements. This total in-house service gives a quicker turnaround to clients and will also reduce costs by keeping everything needed under one umbrella. Costs will always escalate when having different parts of a job done through different companies. So the painting of the containers was carried out across our depots, strategically designed to use the least fuel and time consumption to reach their destinations. Once all conversions were complete, the shipping containers were loaded onto our 1st Container transporters and delivered and setup at the BT sites. This was all achieved in a minimal time, and the biggest compliment we could ever want after a job has been completed is return custom. This is what we have achieved with BT announcing it to be very happy with the service that 1st Containers supplied and a continuing relationship has ensued.

About British Telecom

British Telecom, originally part of the Post Office, was formed in 1980 and became totally independent of the Post Office a year later, in 1981. The origins of the company date back to 1846, making it the oldest telecommunications company in the world, and in 1984, as with many services at the time it was privatised, with the3 government selling 51 per cent of shares to private investors. Over the years since that first flotation the government have continued to sell their shares in BT, and the company as a whole is now privatised with the government no longer holding any stakes in BT. BT have continued to grow as one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world by acquiring smaller telecoms companies across the globe. They have also diversified with some of their acquirements, most notably when purchasing the online electrical retailer for over £30 million.

Along with the BT Global Services across 170 countries, the BT Retail Division is a major supplier in the UK of, Telephony, Broadband and Subscription Television Services.
